SkinPen microneedling

All about SkinPen®

As the only FDA-approved, medical-grade microneedling device available, SkinPen® is a fantastic treatment for all skin types, and can be used on practically any area of the body. This includes the face, neck, décolletage, abdomen, arms, hands, legs, and back. Offering a completely unique experience to microneedling in Philadelphia.

SkinPen® is a microneedling treatment, which means that it addresses acne and other skin conditions, as well as signs of aging. The SkinPen® device utilizes 14 stainless steel needles to make tiny injuries in the skin in order to stimulate the body’s natural wound-healing process. This is what causes the new collagen to develop — which results in skin that is smoother, tighter, and more youthful-looking.

The Science Behind SkinPen Microneedling

How does SkinPen work? The needles make tiny punctures into the skin, and once this happens, the body instantly sends its natural “injury repair team” to provide healthy new tissue (collagen) to the area. Over the following weeks and months, this brand-new collagen makes the skin smoother and firmer.

The tiny punctures also increase your body’s blood flow, which creates a new network of blood vessels. This process improves acne scars, stretch marks, and other skin conditions. Making it one of the best treatments for microneedling in Philadelphia.

Microneeding FAQs:

Is SkinPen safe?

As long as SkinPen is being performed by a licensed, skilled, and experienced professional, it is very safe. And because it is the only FDA-approved microneedling device in the U.S., the device was put through many clinical tests for safety.

Is microneedling with SkinPen safe for darker skin tones?

Absolutely, microneedling is safe for all skin tones. Unlike some laser treatments, microneedling does not cause hyperpigmentation in darker skin types.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of SkinPen treatments will vary from patient to patient. As a general rule, we recommend at least 3-6 treatments to achieve optimal results.

What Happens During a Treatment?

Before treatment begins, a topical numbing cream will be applied. This takes about 30 minutes to numb the area. Then, the cream will be removed, and the skin will be prepped for treatment. A gel will be placed on the tip of the handheld SkinPen device so that it glides more easily over the skin. The microneedles go over the skin, creating 1,600 micro penetrations per second. Patients report that this feels like a small vibration. The depth of the microneedles can be adjusted based on your specific aesthetic goals and skin condition. The microneedling treatment itself takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Adding platelet-rich plasma

For an advanced SkinPen microneedling treatment, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be added to enhance results. Adding PRP to microneedling involves applying a concentrated sample of your own blood — composed primarily of high levels of platelets — to the treatment area. This process initiates tissue repair and regeneration. Both SkinPen and PRP are excellent stand-alone treatments, but when combined, their effectiveness is elevated.

Mirconeeding Recovery and Results

After treatment, your skin will be red anywhere from a few hours to an entire day following. Although more rare, some patients also experience skin that is dry, itchy, tender, rough, tingling, tight, or peeling. Once your skin has returned to normal (typically the next day), it will appear softer and more radiant, and it will continue to improve over the course of several weeks. For best results, a series of 3-6 treatments of microneedling in Philadelphia is recommended, scheduled 4-6 weeks apart.
