Brow and forehead lift

Many individuals seek out a brow lift (forehead lift) because their “resting face” makes them appear unfriendly, tired, sad, or angry. This is often due to a heavy brow, but a brow lift is designed to counteract the effect of gravity and tighten skin in the upper third of the face. This surgical procedure helps improve horizontal wrinkles and creases across the forehead by tightening muscles and removing excess skin, and helps elevate sagging upper eyelids and eyebrows.

What a brow lift can do

  • Restores the natural position of the eyebrows
  • Improves the appearance of droopy upper eyelids
  • Lifts and tightens excess forehead skin
  • Softens horizontal forehead lines
  • Improves the appearance of crow’s feet
  • Elevates and re-position the brow line

Dr. Bloom’s surgical techniques for a brow lift

Depending on a patient’s unique case, Dr. Bloom employs a variety of approaches to a forehead lift.

Incisions are usually placed on the scalp within the hairline above the forehead or at the temples, but the size, number, and placement of the incisions depends on the approach used.

The use of an endoscope allows for smaller incisions, but this option may not be appropriate for all patients. The technique Dr. Bloom may use will include a direct brow lift, an indirect brow lift, a temporal brow lift, or an endoscopic brow lift. The ideal method for your needs will be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Bloom.

Recovery

Recovery from a forehead lift requires icing for the first 48 hours, sleeping on your back with your head elevated for 5-7 days, and only light activity for the first week. Swelling will begin to subside after the fourth or fifth post-operative day, and bruising and numbness are common during this time. Any stitches will be removed approximately one week after surgery, and you can expect to be back to normal activities within two weeks.

Results

It can take up to six months to see final brow lift results because it takes some time for the swelling to subside. Although surgery results are long-lasting, gravity and the aging process will continue to take their toll, so it’s important to be realistic about your results.
