A full head of hair often represents attractiveness and desirability both personally and professionally, but the fact is that approximately 50 million men and approximately 30 million women suffer from male/female pattern baldness or thinning hair.

When it comes to hair transplantation, many potential patients shy away from (or are not candidates for) the traditional “strip method” of hair replacement.

This is because of the long recovery time, the loss of feeling at the incision sites, the linear scar on the back of the head, and/or the amount of post-operative pain involved. However, NeoGraft now offers a much-improved option for those who are interested in hair transplantation. Hair Restoration with NeoGraft automates the follicular unit extraction (FUE) method to give patients more natural-looking results with minimal downtime, no linear scarring, and no stitches.

Main benefits of NeoGraft

  • Least invasive procedure for hair transplant
  • Little to no discomfort
  • No stitches or staples
  • No unsightly linear scar
  • No numbness where the donor hair is removed
  • Quick recovery time
  • Natural-looking results
  • Less restrictions on normal daily activities
  • Patients typically go back to work the next day
  • Flexibility for any hairstyle of your choice

What is follicular unit extraction?

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a hair transplantation technique that removes healthy hair follicle units from the scalp at the back of the head and then implants those healthy follicles into other areas of the scalp where the hair is thinning or missing. Because FUE doesn’t use a scalpel, no linear scar is left behind on the back of the head, the way it is with the “strip method”.

NeoGraft provides absolute exact harvesting and placement of the hair follicles, delivering repeatable results. Each follicle is removed individually while the patient is comfortable. The result is a natural-looking head of hair created with a minimally invasive procedure. In addition, NeoGraft is the only complete harvesting system on the market and has the only “no-touch” implantation technology.

Hair Loss Treatments Explained by Dr. Bloom

Hair loss or baldness is typically hormonal but can also be caused by skin conditions. And it's not just limited to men, it can also affect women. Dr. Bloom discusses follicular unit extraction as a better, scarless method to hair restoration.

Procedure details

Before treatment begins, a local anesthetic will be used to numb both the part of your scalp where the hair follicles are being removed as well as the part where they will be implanted. The NeoGraft device will then remove the hair follicles, and Dr. Bloom will then place the hair grafts in a manner that mimics the natural pattern of hair growth to reflect the natural “path” of your hairline. Following the procedure, your scalp will be thoroughly rinsed and dressed. The entire NeoGraft procedure takes anywhere from 3-8 hours, depending on the amount of follicles being harvested.

Recovery and results

NeoGraft patients can expect mild swelling and redness after treatment, but these side effects will subside within 4-7 days. Patients typically return to their regular activities the following day. In approximately one month, the donor hair will shed out. This is normal, and nothing to be worried about. In three months, you will see early growth results, and then more visible improvement in six months. Finally, at one year, your hair will look thicker, denser, and healthier.

NeoGraft FAQs:

How much hair can be restored with a NeoGraft procedure?

One of the best features of the NeoGraft procedure is that many grafts can be taken and transplanted on the head, as long as there is ample donor hair density. It is not uncommon to take approximately 2,000 grafts during a procedure. Of course, the more grafts that are extracted, the longer the procedure will take. In general, a NeoGraft procedure will take between 3-8 hours.

What’s the best way to maintain my results?

The best way to maintain your new hair growth after NeoGraft is to live the healthiest and most well-balanced lifestyle possible. Your food should be balanced and include plenty of nutrients. Proper hair care is also critical. Get enough sleep and refrain from smoking.
