What is a neck lift?

Often neglected in terms of skincare, age-related changes in the neck are due to both accumulated sun damage and a loosening of the neck muscles over time. This frequently causes visible vertical bands as well as the dreaded “turkey neck”. Similar to a facelift, our neck lift in Philadelphia with Dr. Bloom addresses underlying muscles, fat, and excess skin to restore a more youthful profile. Although a neck lift can be performed on its own, Dr. Bloom may also recommend a deep plane facelift, other facial plastic surgery procedures, and/or non-invasive treatments to create a fully customized and comprehensive approach to achieve enhanced rejuvenation.

What are the benefits of a neck lift?

  • Improves the appearance of a double chin
  • Removes a hanging turkey neck
  • Defines the chin, neck, and jawline
  • Softens neck wrinkles
  • Achieves a more contoured and youthful-looking neck
  • Boosts self-esteem and confidence

Dr. Bloom’s Neck Lift Technique

If a neck lift is being performed on its own, it can be done under local anesthesia and light sedation. Dr. Bloom generally places incisions behind the ears and possibly under the chin. These are virtually undetectable once healed. For optimal results, liposuction may be incorporated as well to remove fat deposits. A neck lift procedure takes approximately 2-3 hours. If a neck lift is being performed as part of Dr. Bloom’s deep plane facelift, the surgery takes place at a hospital with a board-certified anesthesiologist who will carefully monitor you throughout the procedure.

Neck Lift Recovery and Results

Though some degree of improvement is visible immediately after a neck lift in Philadelphia, expect about one week of downtime and several weeks of swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. Your neck will be wrapped with dressings for several days.

Final results will be apparent at about four months, when the swelling has completely subsided. With proper post-procedure care, neck lift results can last up to 10 years or more.

Combining Your Neck Lift with a Deep Plane Facelift

For over 10 years, Dr. Bloom has been performing a signature deep plane facelift + neck lift procedure, and he now teaches it to other facial plastic surgeons. Dr. Bloom believes this technique allows for the best results in the most natural way. The focus of the deep plane facelift and neck lift procedure is on the release of the facial retaining ligaments.

This allows the face to be resuspended without looking pulled, stretched, or unnatural. Dr. Bloom says that this procedure is the most rejuvenating service that he provides, and truly transforms the lower face, jawline, and neck. Patients can look 10-20 years younger, and a better version of themselves.
