What is a mid facelift?

Unlike a full facelift, a mid facelift in Philadelphia with Dr. Bloom concentrates on the area from beneath the eyes to the top of the mouth. This facial plastic surgery procedure helps improve the appearance of under-eye hollows, sunken cheeks, and nasolabial folds (the folds on the sides of the mouth). Patients who undergo a midface lift look younger and rejuvenated, but with a very subtle and natural-looking appearance.

Candidates for a mid facelift

If you’re in the Bryn Mawr and Philadelphia area and you’re considering a mid facelift, it may be the perfect procedure for you. A mid facelift is usually more appropriate for younger patients who do not have sagging in the lower face, but who are bothered by the loss of volume in the cheeks and deep smile lines. The best candidates are in overall good health, are non-smokers, and are willing and able to refrain from using blood-thinning medications and products for two weeks prior to surgery.

How is a mid facelift performed?

A midface lift is performed by Dr. Bloom and is done with the patient under either IV sedation or general anesthesia. Depending on a patient’s unique needs and goals, Main Line facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Bloom may place incisions inside the lower lash line or within the hairline at the temples. These scars will be well concealed once healed. A mid facelift takes 60-90 minutes to perform.

Recovery and results

A mid facelift requires approximately one week of recovery time, although this can vary depending on the techniques used. You will need to avoid strenuous activities and intense exercise for three weeks, and you may also need to sleep on your back during recovery. We will discuss recovery details further with you during your consultation with us.

Because a mid facelift is less invasive than a full facelift, results are often visible sooner because there is less swelling and bruising. Although you’ll most likely be ready to be seen in 1-3 weeks, final results are usually apparent at 2-3 months.

After your mid facelift in Bryn Mawr, you’ll look better for the rest of your life than you would if you’d never had the surgery. However, this is not to say that new signs of aging won’t develop. Wrinkles and loose skin will eventually reappear years after facial surgery, but you will always look better with the surgery than without.
