Facial rejuvenation is a primary goal for most women and men, but the neck plays an important role in improving one’s overall appearance. Often neglected in terms of skincare, age-related changes in the neck are due to both accumulated sun damage as well as a loosening of the neck muscles over time. This causes the visible vertical bands, as well as “turkey neck.”
Similar to a facelift, necklift surgery (also known as platysmaplasty) addresses underlying muscles, fat and excess skin to restore a more youthful profile. Incisions are generally placed behind the ears and possibly under the chin, and are virtually undetectable once healed. For optimal results, liposuction may be incorporated as well to remove fat deposits. Though some degree of improvement is visible immediately after surgery, expect about a week of downtime and several weeks of swelling after a necklift. With proper post-procedure care, necklift results can last up to 10 years or more.
Although a necklift can be performed on its own, Mainline Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Jason Bloom may recommend a facelift, additional facial plastic surgery procedures and/or non-invasive treatments to create a fully customized comprehensive approach to restore a more youthful appearance.
